A Cake Fit for (Hollywood) Royalty

The inspiration for the red carpet themed cake really came from personally working with the client.  I then went back to talk over a rough sketch of the cake with one of my cake gurus, Donald Reid, being that he had done a red carpet themed cake in the past.  When I meet with a client I try to learn the theme of the room and event to make sure I incorporate as many elements into the cake as possible.

For this cake in particular, I knew they were hanging red and gold stars from the ceiling so that is where I got that idea for the stars on the cake.  With the theme being red carpet, we really wanted that part to be the big noticeable detail on the cake so we ran it down the center of the cake so it would pop first.  The rest really comes from our interpretation of the Oscars.

For example, I think of film strips and glamour.  I had some gold bling ribbon left over from another cake I had done, so I knew I wanted to incorporate that for the bling element.  For the film, we thought a band around the bottom borders of each tier would look the best without it getting to be too much on the cake.

In the end, I felt my cake assistant Donald Reid and I created a beautiful cake that the client ended up being very pleased with.
